McKechnie Aluminium is firmly committed to a long term environmental and sustainable future for the benefit of a cleaner and greener New Zealand. Sound and sustainable environmental management is an integral business goal and we acknowledge this by recognising the importance company operations must adhere to with our environmental protection programmes, to the benefit of all major stakeholders and to our position in the local and wider community.
Our operation covers an aluminium recycling and billet casting facility, with extrusion, surface finishing and value added activities incorporated on the one site. These manufacturing processes require the Company to manage a valuable but sustainable resource in a responsible manner. We recognise that various aspects of our business could affect the environment, and as a responsible corporate entity we maintain well developed controls of all activities through our Environmental Management Systems to prevent any harm to the environment.
Our manufacturing site is certified through the internationally recognised standards of AS/NZS ISO 14001 environmental, and AS/NZS ISO 9001 quality, including achievement of Diamond status certification to the Enviro-Mark™ NZ environmental management system endorsed by Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research.
The company works closely with the Taranaki Regional Council and New Plymouth District Council to manage compliance with all resource consents and approvals, and complying with all legal and statutory requirements. Our employees are trained to recognise their environmental responsibilities, and the importance of their individual contributions to the integrity of our environmental systems.
